A Teacher’s Journey; Nurturing Hearts and Embracing Minds.
Becoming a teacher is far more than a job or a career. It is about being a role model and a friend. It is about having the honor to inspire the minds of those children sitting in your classroom on a daily basis. It is about igniting the flame of curiosity and the continuous thirst for knowledge. As Henry Adams once said, “a teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops”.
My interest in teaching began when my wonderful second grade teacher inspired me. She taught me that no star was too far out of reach, and that if I put my mind to accomplishing my goals, I could and would make it. She encouraged me to be the best at every task I undertook. As I grew older, and furthered my education, I have had the privilege to be taught by many other teachers who have also served as my role models. I too now aspire to make a lifelong impact in the lives of our community’s children.
I have been working as a head teacher in a pre-kindergarten classroom since 2007. My role as a teacher is to provide enriching activities so that children are supported, as they learn about their strengths and work on their weaknesses. I promote the worth of every student in my classroom with the understanding that each student is special and unique. When students are frustrated or worried, they know they can turn to me for comfort and words of advice.
I am now entering my second year as part of the District 20 pre-K family, and am thrilled to be part of such an incredible program. In District 20 Pre-K centers, we provide children with a rich environment where they feel safe to explore, initiate learning, and feel free to express themselves. Our classrooms are stocked with materials that invite exploration, fire the imagination, and require initiative and prompt collaboration. We make it our goal to promote strong parent – teacher relationships, fostering trust and respect, and strive to enrich children’s academic, social and emotional skills. I am fortunate to be part of Pre-K Center Z094 on 2165 71st Street, and am optimistic in what the future holds for our students, colleagues and community. After all, at District 20, great beginnings never end!
